DJ Classes?

This could be you!

This could be you!

There are many reasons to be a DJ!

I asked a few DJs why they became DJs and here are a few of the answers that I got.

“DJ Dan’s Loose Caboose. When I figured out he used turntables to mix (previously unknown to me, in ‘96), I got my first job to save up for tables. The rest of the story basically illustrates a bottomless pit of techno-gluttony.

I’ve loved most music since I was a kid, but when i was in college I started experimenting and listening to EVERYTHING i could get my hands on. Hip hop, rap, latin, J-rock, J pop, rock, 70s, 80’s, metal, death metal, techno, house, electro… etc… So when it came to parties, people always came and asked me to bring my collection. But for a long time i was content blasting my tunes out of my stereo, then eventually my laptop. Eventually i saw some vids from Qbert and DJ Kentaro and they looked amazing! And as i started to goto more and more clubs, i got really interested in DJing and becoming more involved with mixing music. So i bought my first mixer and then a month or so later, some techs

“DJing was the next step for me since loving the music for so long.

Well, i just loved listening to music and i loved the mixing that went on in the sets i downloaded, mainly dubstep off barefiles, and all this made me want to be able to mix like them, so i decided to buy some decks!!

“I used to love rock N roll… i bought myself a drum set, and played to all sorts of artists with my headphones in, i learned how to keep a beat, and all that jazz.. I would practice drums untill my ears would ring for a few hours.. AND THEN i started getting into EDM… well you cant really drum to EDM, so i wanted to get invovled in the music a different way… I guess DJing just makes me feel apart of the music just like druming did…

When i wanna play some EDM, i DJ
when i wanna bang to some rock, I play my drums”

“I’m just really bad at dancing.”

“My love for music and the ability to control, manipulate and create through my equipment and mind.”

“I started because DJing is cool and I wanted to be more cool because then girls will have more sex with me and stuff.   ;)

To Be A Top DJ

You need to know more than the basics. You can’t just expect to play track after track and expect people to love you.

Have you heard of turntablism?

This is the art of using a turntable as a musical instrument.

The Top DJs Are Turntablists!

Turnablists use techniques such as scratching, beat matching, beat mixing, beat juggling, the list goes on. They can carry of effects such as:  Echo, Flanger, Phaser, Chorus, Equalization, Filtering, Pitch shift, Time stretching, Resonators, Synthesizer,Modulation, Compression, 3D audio effects, Reverse echo.

You may be feeling slightly overwhelmed at all of this. It is to be expected. When I first got involved in DJing I was overwhelmed too.

I just recommend that you get a solid grasp on the basic and then start building your skills.

To be a great DJ, DJ classes are highly recommended. Of course you can spend hours on end searching  the net looking for tips and tricks and learning everything slowly.

But if you are like me you will wonder “why waste my precious time searching for tips that were probably written by someone that knows  about as much as I do?”

Learn from the pros.
